The Delta State Police Command has arraigned before the court 30 of the suspects arrested during the intelligence-led crime prevention and enforcement raids.

The raids were carried out at identified criminal black spots within the Asaba metropolis on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

The suspects were among the 202 persons arrested during the operation led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations.

Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, who disclosed this, added that the intelligence-driven operation was based on credible information gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID) and targeted at identified black spots, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens across Asaba and adjoining communities.

Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, 172 suspects were screened and released unconditionally, noting that one of the suspects, a 63-year-old proprietor of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, was arraigned before the Asaba Magisterial District for allegedly permitting his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution, offences punishable under Sections 224 and 223 respectively of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. I, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

He said the remaining 29 suspects were arraigned for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and possession of illicit drugs.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, had reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that every lawful arrest is followed by diligent investigation and prosecution where a prima facie case is established.

He warned criminals and those who harbour them in various hideouts and other unlawful establishments to desist from such activities which threaten public peace and security, emphasizing that the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-led operations to rid the State of criminal elements.
