The operatives of the Delta State Police Command said they have recorded further operational successes in their sustained crackdown on cultism and other violent crimes with the arrest of seven suspected members of secret cult.

Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command disclosed in a statement on Wednesday.

Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that on July 27, 2026, operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit while acting on credible intelligence raided a criminal hideout at Issele-Uku.

The following suspects according to him were arrested during the raid- Promise Esenjor (26) of Abavo, Wisdom Victor (23) of Umunede, James Wisdom (25) of Agbor, Chinedu Munonye (22) of Issele-Uku, Onyemakonor Collins (20) of Agbor, Unah Oluchi (21) of Agbor, and Azomani Favour (23) of Issele-Uku.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to be members of the dreaded Maphite confraternity, adding that recovered from their hideout were one double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, one cutlass, one Maphite cult beret, seven Android phones, and other incriminating exhibits.

In another development, the PPRO said that in a separate operation, operatives of Abraka division on July 27, 2026, while acting on credible intelligence, foiled a planned gathering of suspected criminals along Omono Road, Abraka.

He disclosed that while other suspects fled on sighting the police, one Wale Morakinyo, aged 27 years was arrested. According to the PPRO, when the bag in his possession was searched, two locally fabricated pistols and four live cartridges were received.

“The suspect is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.” Edafe said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reassured all Deltans of the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against cultism and other violent crimes.

He urged members of the public to continue to provide credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to keep the state safe.
