The 2022 edition of the Lagos International Maritime Week (LIMW) billed for September 13 to 15 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel will be opened by the Transportation Minister, Engr Muazu Sambo.
Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore, CEO, Zoe Maritime Resources Limited, organizers of the annual maritime event, disclosed this.
According to her, the theme of the programme is strategic as LIMW shares this with the 2022 World Maritime Day (WMD).
Speaking to a sister medium, Mrs Edodo-Emore said: “LIMW always uses the World Maritime Day for each year as the theme for its event because LIMW works hand-in-hand with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This year’s event will be opened by the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Engr. Mu’azu Sambo”
“The programme will commence with a Public Lecture to be given by a doyen in the African maritime industry and a highly sought-after intellectual property of the World Maritime community, Otunba Kunle Folarin, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC)”
She stated that the aim of the conference and exhibition is to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the maritime industry in the West and Central African sub-region and to stimulate Nigeria as a focal point and hub of maritime activities in the sub-region.
The conference also intends to feature a round-table to discuss various issues such as Maritime Transportation and Logistics, Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea and Maritime Law and Arbitration.
Others are Port Development, Marine Environment, Maritime Training and Education and Women in Maritime.
Meanwhile, the LIMW convener has described the conference and exhibition as an amazing platform to showcase the maritime capacities and capabilities of key players in the industry in Nigeria and in the West and Central African subregion. The objective is to attract foreign businesses to partner with Nigerian companies and those of other countries in the subregion.
Speakers for the 2022 LIMW drawn locally and internationally include the Danish Defence Attaché to Nigeria/ Maritime Military Advisor to West Africa, Captain (Navy) Soren Skovbjerg Nielsen; Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Hon. Emmanuel-Lyambee Jime and the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh.
Others are the Executive Director, Security, Environment and Maritime Research, Danish Shipping, Maria Skipper Schwenn.
Other speakers are; Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Ambassador (Mrs) Florentina Adenike Ukonga; Chief Judge, Federal High Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice JT.Tsoho; President, Nigerian Maritime Law Association (NMLA), Mrs. Funke Agbor (SAN); President, Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN), Mr. Bodurin Adewale and Chairman, SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi.
Stakeholders expected at the conference include maritime practitioners, government agencies, banks, lawyers, doctors, insurance companies, shipowners, logistics companies, freight forwarders, oil and gas companies, among others.
