The Delta State Police Command has explained how it recorded significant operational successes in the ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across the State, saying this led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a locally made pistol and ten bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, who disclosed this said that at about 5.30am on May 30, 2026, the surveillance team attached to Asaba Area command, while on routine patrol behind NTA Asaba, intercepted three suspects.
He gave the identity of the suspects as Musa Sule, 22-year-old; Moses Sunday, 26-year-old and 25-year-old Osama Ibrahim.
He said that based on reasonable suspicion, the operatives decided to search the suspects, adding that the search led to the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons.
He said the suspects were immediately arrested, while the exhibits were taken into custody, while investigation was ongoing,
In a separate operation, Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that at about 4am of May 29, 2026; operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), while on an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway, intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE.
He said the vehicle’s occupants were one Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, alias “Big Joe”.
During a search of the vehicle, the operatives according to the PPRO recovered ten bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been concealed within the vehicle.
He noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted.
“The suspects have been taken into custody, while the exhibits have been secured as evidence. Investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the criminal network involved and to identify other accomplices connected to the illicit trade.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty.
