The operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robber and recovered two firearms.

The arrest was said to have followed coordinated stop-and-search and patrol activities within Asaba, the state capital.

Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command confirmed the arrest.

Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that on April 23, 2026 at about 4.25 pm, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), while on routine stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu/Asaba road, intercepted one Chinonso Igwemma, male, 28-year-old.

He said that the suspect’s conduct aroused suspicion, prompting a search which led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol.

The PPRO added that the timely intervention of the operatives was believed to have averted a potential violent crime, noting that the suspect is currently in custody and under investigation

In another development, Edafe disclosed that operatives of the Crack Squad, while on routine patrol in the Bonsaac Area of Asaba, intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants.

The suspects, identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30) were all subjected to a thorough search, leading to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

He said preliminary interrogation revealed that they are linked to criminal activities and dispossesses innocent citizens of their belongings.

Efforts, according to the police image maker, were ongoing to uncover their network and apprehend other members of their gang.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led strategies and proactive policing, aimed at preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks in the state.
