In a bold step towards strengthening Nigeria’s internal security and restoring peace in the Southeast, Chief Success Obioma Akagburuonye, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, has donated an utra-modern security facility to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to boost security in the Southeast axis of the country.
Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), commissioned the state-of-the-art area command office located at Ogbor-Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, which was donated by Chief Akagburuonye.
The ultra-modern security facility, donated to the Federal Government is strategically located to enhance intelligence gathering and operational response in the region, in a remarkable display of patriotism and community service by the donor.
Commissioning the edifice, Dr. Audi described the gesture as a monumental contribution to the Federal Government’s renewed hope drive to fortify national security architecture, particularly in areas affected by rising criminal activities, youth restiveness, and economic stagnation in the Southeast.
According to him, “This facility will serve as a vital operational base to coordinate security efforts, foster inter-agency collaboration, and ensure that peace and economic activities are restored in Imo and neighboring states.”
The NSCDC Chief, who was represented at the event by Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone 13 , Mr Nnamdi Nwanukwu, also commended the State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his unrelenting effort in ensuring that the state is secured by providing logistics to all the security agencies in the state.
”I want to express our gratitude to Chief Success Obioma Akagburuoye for his generosity in using his personal resources to build a befitting office for the Corps. This is the kind of partnership we are talking about. Security is the Business of everyone as the government cannot do it alone. I also commend the State Governor, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma for his unrelenting effort to ensure that the State is secured by providing logistics to all the security agencies in the state.
“We thank the donor and I want to tell him that he has done noble, and that we have the capacity to maintain this new office. We also call on others with the means to emulate Chief Akagburuonye to do same. Like I said earlier, security is everyone’s business. This unit has been approved as an area command office for the three Local government councils of Mbaise, ” he stated.
The Commandant General lauded Chief Akagburuonye’s generosity, describing him as “a true patriot who understands that national security is a shared responsibility.”
He urged other well-meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to emulate the philanthropic initiative by supporting the government’s efforts to safeguard lives and property.
Speaking earlier, the State Commandant, Basil Igwebueze called on the rich and public spirited individuals to partner with the Security Agencies to secure the State, and that for the security of lives and property to be effective that everyone must be involved.
” Those, who have the resources like Barr Success Obioma Akagburuonye should assist government to provide logistics to security agencies for optimal result. Others should avail security agencies of actionable intelligence to work with the Corps like all security agencies, is as proactive as it is reactive enabled by the assistance of kindhearted individuals. “
He added, “the rich and public spirited individuals and unions should support the laudable security strategies emplaced by the federal government and state government especially by our governor, His excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma to restore the peace and security in the state. ”
In his speech, elated Chief Barrister Success Obioma Akagburuonye, the originator and sponsor of the project, said his motivation stemmed from a deep concern over the insecurity plaguing the Southeast and the urgent need for practical solutions.
“Peace and security are the bedrock of progress,” he noted. “I believe that when citizens support government institutions, we can rebuild confidence and accelerate development across our communities.”
“The idea of this feat came as a result of my concern for security after I became uncomfortable with the level of insecurity ravaging our communities and urgent need to complement the good works of the Government.
“I reached out to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) and enquired if an ordinary citizen can assist in setting up a security unit, and the response was positive. Thanks to the Commandant General and the State Commandant, who, not only signaled the green light but also devoted their energy and time to ensure that this noble idea became a reality.
Akagburuonye further disclosed that this Facility has been designated as an Area command for the three Local governments of Mbaise namely Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ahiazu Mbaise.
“Let me thank my people Ndi Ogbor for the encouragement they have been giving to me in the course of this project, the land offered for this was free of charge and they were rendering their supports in any area of need,” he proudly emphasised.
“To the NSCDC, I want say that I will continue to support your activities here but will request that you apply the right discipline in the discharge of your duties,” he appealed to the high command.
The newly commissioned Area Command Office boasts modern communication gadgets, surveillance facilities, administrative offices, a conference room, and residential quarters for officers — reflecting a standard comparable to any modern security outpost in the country.
Traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and representatives of sister security agencies graced the commissioning ceremony, commending both the NSCDC and Chief Akagburuonye for their partnership in promoting peace and stability.
The event was seen as a symbol of renewed hope for Aboh Mbaise and the Southeast at large — a testament to the impact of collaboration between government institutions and patriotic citizens in confronting the nation’s security challenges head-on.
The event commenced with a thanksgiving service at the Noah’s Ark Assemblies of God Church, Ogbor-Uvuru.
