The President and General Overseer of the United Apostolic Church of Christ (UACC) Worldwide, Rev Dr. James Bayo Owoyemi has called for prayers for the Nation, its leaders even as he took a swipe on government concerning the security challenges facing the Nation, saying that the government at all levels needed to do more to protect lives and property of residents and visitors in the country.
The Cleric gave this charge in Lagos on Saturday during a press conference in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Church.
The events commemorating the Diamond Jubilee celebration UACC worldwide commenced with the Annual Supreme Executive Council Meeting of the Church on Friday, August 15, 2025, through Saturday August 16 to Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Rev Dr. Owoyemi who was fielding questions from journalists on the state of the Nation lamented a situation where some people carry arms to unleash havoc in the society yet, people will be amnesty and rehabilitation of bandits.
The Rev Dr noted that the problem of the county lies in the leadership and corruption
He also lamented that the politicians rather than addressing the hardship in the country and reduce the suffering of the masses, they are busy talking about the 2027 election.
He however appeal to the citizens to be patience with the government policies and be prayerful, assuring that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Ha also assured that Nigeria will be great saying with prayers and with God all things are possible.
He said: “You mentioned the state of the Nation and the condition of the people. Well, our prayer is that Nigeria will be great. Say amen.
Nigeria will be great. Nigeria is a nation of God.
“The kind of challenges being faced, you will agree with me that if not God, the Country would have been another thing.
“If not for the Grace of God, this country has been passing through so many challenges, though not peculiar to only Nigeria but many countries of the world.”
He said that it is also the grace of God that made the country to remain one.
“I mean, with numerous challenges, Nigeria still remains one. Do you know that cannot be possible without the grace of God? And it’s obvious because the security, the economic situation of the country, the level of property, things like that. One can see the concerns of the people.”
While appealing to the people to be patient with the government, the UACC President/ GO said that no adjustment comes without its pain, noting that it is but for a while.
“You know, definitely, if you really want to say that you want to adjust things, there will be pains that will follow it.
What we expect is that we want everything to be okay immediately.
It doesn’t work like that, it takes time. It’s clearly, as a common saying, you don’t grow up in one day. You don’t, there’s no way you can feed a skinny person and expect him or her to be fat in a day.
“No, it takes time. Do you know that in most situation, if you want to give him the food at once, it may cause him or her another problem,” he explained.
“I really want to encourage and appeal to the church leaders, to the Christian leaders in Nigeria, to please, let’s continue to pray for the government of Nigeria. Excuse me that is my own belief. We make it our prayer.
You know, every normal human being would want people to bless him. That is it. You want people to bless you. So let’s continue to pray for the country and our leaders. The country is passing through a lot at the moment. But we believe that with God, we will overcome the present challenges.
A lot of challenges are going on in our country. But then, we need to know that it is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. The world itself is facing challenges.
So, but unfortunately, just because of poor leadership, I think that is what we have. The poor leadership in this country has not blessed Nigeria. It has not blessed Nigeria.
You know, Nigeria is blessed more than even those of Western nations. It is all because of this issue of poor leadership, the corruption.
Corruption is a dangerous cancer that is killing the economy of Nigeria,” Rev Dr Owoyemi enthused.
