To achieve the goal of promoting seamless trade and create an enabling environment for businesses to grow, a mutually beneficial cooperation between the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) and the Airfreight Stakeholders’ Forum (ASF) must be in place.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Mr Emmanuel Jime stated this in Lagos, Wednesday, while receiving the President, Airfreight Stakeholders’ Forum (ASF), Mr. Toyin Onifade and his members on a courtesy visit.

The statutory function of the NSC, he explained, is to  protect the interests of shippers including members of the  Airfreight Stakeholders’ Forum.

“I have had thorough briefing about the activities of Airfreight Stakeholders’ Forum. I understand that the Forum has, expectedly, played a key role in airfreight matters. As Port Economic Regulator, NSC wants business to be done seamlessly in both the seaports and airports in the country”, he further said.

As contained in a statement by Rakiya Dhikru Yagboyaju,  NSC’s Head of Public Relations, the ES/CEO also emphasized the need to ensure proper packaging of exports for various international markets while assuring the  team of Council’s support for their operations.

In his remarks, Onifade disclosed that ASF had plans to launch a manual to provide guidelines for stakeholders in airfreight businesses in the country.

He said that airfreight is cheaper than conveyance of goods by roads and stressed the need for enlightenment campaigns by relevant government agencies to enable shippers get attuned to the benefits of airfreight.

The statement recalled that  the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and Airfreight Stakeholders’ Forum have jointly organized series of workshops and interactions in the past for stakeholders on topical issues on exports and airfreight business in the country.
