Following continuous surveillance and diligent patrol of the creeks and beaches by the Nigeria Customs Service, the Seme Command, Thursday, intercepted 3,998 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) on the verge of being smuggled into a neighbouring country. Hussein Abdullahi, the image maker of the Command, disclosed this.
According to him, the intercepted products have a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N28.9million.
“In the late hours of Monday 15 August, 2022, the command received a tip-off of intelligence that there were large quantities of petroleum product, PMS, stockpiled close to a beach along Badagry waterways intended to be smuggled out of the country. Our men stormed the location and the product was successfully evacuated to the Command premises in Seme Border. Findings revealed that 3,998 Jerry cans of PMS in 30) litre each, equivalent to 119, 940 litres of PMS about four tankers load of 33000 litres were discovered. The seized petroleum product has a Duty Paid Value DPV of N28.9million”, Abdullahi said.
The Customs Area Controller, Compt. Mohammed Jibo, in his assessment of the seizures, commended the officers for their high level of commitment in efforts to make smuggling unattractive.
He was optimistic that economic saboteurs who have refused to see anything wrong in snuggling and economic sabotage will be eventually frustrated. Smuggling must be suppressed to the barest minimum, the CAC stated.
Nigerians, he stated, should be prepared at all times to avail useful information that could help to curtail the illegal activities of unscrupulous elements in the country. He applauded his officers for the high level of discipline, patriotism and professionalism exhibited in the discharge of their duty and urged them to keep making the Command and service proud.
The Customs Area Controller appreciated the support and cooperation provided by the host communities and sister security agencies without which the Command cannot achieve such a great feat.
He also placed on record the level of motivation to the Command by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali ( Rtd) and his management team.
