Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tincan Island Port Command, of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), has held a strategic engagement session with key stakeholders and partners.

The meeting took place recently at the command’s headquarters in Lagos.

The event brought together key industry players and trade partners for a dialogue on service delivery, system improvement, and the future of customs operations at the port.

Comptroller Onyeka stated that he invited stakeholders so he could hear directly from them, where the command has fallen short of expectation, “where gaps exist, and how we can close them immediately.”

He stressed the importance of transparency and open feedback as essential tools for reform and improved performance.

“I’m satisfied with the level of engagement and the feedback received. We’ve already begun acting on the issues raised,” he added.

He reiterated his alignment with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who had tasked officers nationwide with collaborating, consolidating, and innovating.

Comptroller Onyeka assured that the stakeholder sessions would continue regularly to build trust, boost efficiency, and foster mutual understanding.

The initiative received wide commendation from participants.

The Vice President and Head of Regional Manufacturing Operations at Olam Agri, Shamim Hamza, described the engagement as a shift from traditional approaches.

“I was moved here two weeks ago from Port Harcourt, and this kind of engagement is new to me. It’s collaborative, not reactive. The CAC listened carefully. This kind of positive interaction can boost Nigeria’s import landscape and improve our economy,” Hamza remarked.
