Senator Victor Umeh has paid N16million to the 74 students under his scholarship scheme to fulfilled his promise to continue to pay the fees even when he is no longer in the Senate.
The beneficiaries of the scholarship awards are the seven local councils of the senatorial district which he initiated in 2018.
Addressing the gathering at his Aguluzigbo country home, Secretary of Victor Umeh Education Foundation, (VUMEF), Sir. Maurice Anetoh, stated that the foundation, since inception, had been recording between eight to 10 graduates and had produced up to 125 graduates so far some of whom were already gainfully employed courtesy of Senator Umeh.
Senator Umeh said that apart from the 74 undergraduates, there were other 250 beneficiaries of the Victor Umeh Education Foundation (VUMEF), including those in Masters and PhD Programmes in various institutions across the country, including Secondary School Students’ category of the scheme.
He said he would take full responsibility until their graduation, stressing that giving the youths a brighter future remained his priority.
Reacting on the outcome of the election tribunal, Senator Umeh said he went to tribunal not as a result of desperation, but to challenge some abnormalities recorded during the election to set record straight for the future generations.
Chief Umeh said he would accept whatever judgment that might be delivered by the Appeal Court, expressing hope that justice would be done in his favour.
