The Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) has congratulated Comrade Oniha Erazua on his emergence as the new Secretary-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

SCAN also commended the MWUN for ensuring the emergence of Comrade Erazua as the new scribe.

The foremost Maritime Journalists Association, in a statement signed by its President, Mr Moses Ebosele and Secretary, Mrs Shulamite Olowofoyeku, said this important leadership position marked a significant step forward for the union.

SCAN expressed confidence that Erazua would bring invaluable insights and dedication to this role.

With a robust background in maritime advocacy, according to the statement, Erazua had been a fierce advocate for the rights and welfare of maritime workers, throughout his career, adding that his commitment to fostering better working conditions and promoting safety standards will undoubtedly contribute to the development of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The statement explained that SCAN recognized the vital role the MWUN plays in representing maritime workers and advocating for their rights.

“We anticipate a continued exciting era of increased dialogue and collaboration between maritime workers and industry stakeholders,” the statement added.

Commending MWUN for the choice of Erazua, the SCAN President and Secretary said: “We are excited about the vision and energy he brings to this role. We believe that his vision and experience will help MWUN to tackle the challenges within the maritime industry and promote a stronger and more united workforce.

“We look forward to engaging with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in initiatives aimed at enhancing the industry and advocating for the well-being of all workers. Together, we can work towards a more prosperous future for the maritime community in Nigeria,” the statement said.

Ebosele and Olowofoyeku urged the MWUN team to continue to navigate the complexities of the maritime industry by ensuring that the voices of workers are not only heard but respected.
