The Police in Delta State said they have arrested an ex-convict for stealing a motorcycle five days after he completed 2-year jail term for a similar offence.
The Command also revealed that another suspected was arrested for being in illegal possession of Berretta pistol.
Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Command, confirmed the arrests.
Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said that at about 3.30pm on August 11, 2025, the patrol team of Eagle-Net Special Squad, Asaba, while on visibility patrol, received a distressed call on a missing motorcycle.
“In a combined effort with some members of Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), they arrested one Precious Okoro (m) aged 27 years of Ulo Street, Asaba, Buhari Deyegu (m), aged 18 years of Ibusa road, Asaba and recovered the missing motorcycle.
He said the prime suspect was an ex-convict who was released from Ogwashi-Uku correctional facility on August 6, 2025, after completing his jail term of two years for a similar offence of stealing a motorcycle.
“The suspect went back to steal another motorcycle just five days after returning from prison.
Investigation was extended to the suspect’s residence, where a search warrant was executed, and one Tiger Generator, one big fireman generator one iron measuring scale were recovered.
Suspect is in custody,” the PPRO further disclosed.
In another operation, he said that at about 5.11am on August 16, 2025 operatives of Rapid Response Squad of Delta State Command, while on stop and search along DBS road, Asaba, stopped one Bassey Udoh, a 39-year-old man of Customs market, Asaba.
He said the suspect was carrying a cross bag as the time of arrest.
According to the police image maker, the suspect, on sighting the police, became uncomfortable, and this prompted the operatives to subject him to a search on the spot.
“Upon the search of the suspect, an English Beretta pistol was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a syndicate that usually breaks into people’s homes and cart away their properties, and he bought the gun for the sum of N30,000.
Suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.”
Edafe said: “the Delta State Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, had recorded another success in the fight against crime and criminality.
“The Policing strategy of CP Olufemi is an intelligence-driven one who promotes police that promotes proactive and not reactive policing.
“All officers, DPOs, and heads of formations have been mandated to key into this policing strategy and ensure that their areas of responsibility are adequately policed.”
