The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria has fixed October 11 and 12, 2022 for the year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and national conference in Lagos.
The conference will explore sustainable innovative logistics and transport solutions for key players in the transport and logistics chain.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday in Lagos, the event planning committee chairman, Prof Kayode Oyesiku hinted that the summit would have robust participation of transport experts from the academics to veterans in operations as quality research papers and thematic sessions will be held.
Prof. Kayode Oyesiku disclosed that year ‘s conference with the theme; “Sustainable Innovations in Global Logistics and Transport” will hold at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, on Tuesday October 11th and Wednesday October 12th respectively.
He pointed out that the year’s event will also include additional dimensions to includes plenary session and that of research paper presentation .
The Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University noted that the CILT Nigeria will also visit the Lekki Deep Seaport and the Eko Atlantic City as part of the Institute tourney .
He also said that the Nigeria’s logistics and transport sector is plagued by a myraid of challenges, hence, the conference will comprise various technical sessions where subject-matter experts will lead conversations primarily aimed at interrogating the future of logistics and transport operations in Nigeria.
He added that especially within the context of a rapidly changing service environment, technological innovations and extensive planning dynamics that characterize logistics, transport and supply chain at the present time.
He however stressed that the conference will attract scores of delegates from within and outside Nigeria, including business leaders, the academia and policy makers.
He further disclosed that it’s 2022 national conference slated for October would correct Nigeria’s poor logistics performance index (LPI).
In his word “This conference will encourage multidisciplinary networks and will provide platforms for academics and professionals to identify and examine the challenges, as well as proffer effective solutions for national logistics and transport operations,” .
According to him, the LPI of nations is now the yardstick for measuring their economic resilience and competitiveness, adding that nations where LPIs are weak have also been characterized by vulnerable economies with high business risks.
The event will also feature exhibitions of transportation and logistics products from cognate industries and sectors, while availing an opportunity for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for industry stakeholders and providing an excellent platform for networking.
Some of the dignitaries to grace the occasion include the President of CILT International, Mr. Paul Sainthouse, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Mu’azu Sambo, Ghana’s CILT President, Chief Teete Owusu-Nortey, Nigerian Transport Commissioners, Chief Executives of transport agencies, among others.
Also speaking at the press conference, the immediate-past President of CILT Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Jibril explained that the summit will be the first where all categories of stakeholders in the transport sector from across all modes will have inputs.
Jibril also expressed confidence in that the nation’s transport sector and the economy will be positively impacted by the upcoming CILT summit.
