Anambra declares war on traffic gridlock

Anambra State Government has declared war on traffic gridlocks in major cities across the state.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, who announced this during a meeting with local traffic management agencies under the ministry.

He noted that the exercise is aimed at decongesting all the roads for easy vehicular movement.

The meeting, held in his office at the Jerome Udoji secretariat complex, Awka, attracted Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, Anambra Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, Willie Work Force, Onitsha North Traffic Authority, ONTA, and Idemili North Traffic Decongestion Authority, INTDA.

Addressing the agencies, Mr. Okafor, enjoined them to join forces in ensuring that the roads would be free of traffic jams at all times.

Commissioner Okafor said that serious decongestion exercise would be carried out in Onitsha and other traffic flash points in the state as well as bus loading points on roads.

Mr. Okafor however warned that henceforth, drivers violating traffic laws would be apprehended and subjected to psychiatric tests.
