Governor Obiano welcomes the DSS team to Government House, Awka

Over 70, 000 people have enrolled in Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, (ASHIA).

Governor Willie Obiano who stated this at the Government House, Awka, while receiving the medical team from the Department of State Services, (DSS), appealed for more enrolment.

The team who is in the state for their health week was led by the Director, Medical Services of DSS, Dr. Ann Okorafor.

The team will round off its summit on Friday at Ogbunike targeted at intervention in mental health challenges, among other health issues.

Receiving the team, Governor Obiano enumerated the mission, vision statement as well as state government’s intervention in the health sector including Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, upgrading of medical facilities and medical schools’ accreditation among others.

Governor Obiano noted that what DSS was embarking in Ogbunike, is grassroots-oriented as it will go a long way to improve the health needs of Anambra and asked them to adopt a hospital in the state where they can receive medical attention.

Leader of the team, Dr. Okafor expressed happiness that the state government graciously accepted to partner with them and disclosed that during their intervention in Kano State, up to 1000 cases of eye cataract were attended to, expressing optimism that many people will key in, as it will aid productivity.

Dr. Okorafor further commended the governor for all the good works he is doing.
